Is the problem everywhere?
Check several fixtures. One weak faucet often indicates a clogged aerator or local plumbing issue. Low pressure throughout the house points toward a whole-house filter, pressure tank, switch, pump, leak, or reduced well yield.
Check the serviceable items
- Replace or bypass a clogged sediment filter according to its instructions
- Confirm that valves are fully open
- Look for visible leaks
- Watch the pressure gauge while water runs
- Listen for unusually rapid pump cycling
When to stop troubleshooting
Electrical controls and pressurized tanks can be hazardous. If the pump will not start, the pressure gauge behaves erratically, or the system cycles rapidly, call a qualified well professional. Repeated cycling can damage a pump and may indicate a failed tank bladder or another system fault.
Important: Do not open electrical controls or add air to a pressure tank unless you understand the equipment and have isolated power safely.
