Some gravity trenches have vertical inspection risers extending to the bottom or infiltrative surface. Interpret patterns across time and trenches
Liquid that appears briefly after a dose and then recedes may be consistent with normal loading for that design, while a level that remains high or rises between checks deserves investigation. Several wet ports after a storm may point toward groundwater or broad hydraulic overload. One persistently wet trench beside dry ones may suggest uneven distribution, a shifted box, blocked outlet, damaged lateral, or localized soil limitation. No visible water does not prove that treatment is adequate.
Compare ports only if they serve comparable trenches and were measured under similar conditions. Serial distribution, alternating fields, pressure dosing, mounds, chambers, drip systems, and advanced units do not behave like a simple parallel gravity field. EPA says a typical inspection can include opening tanks and the distribution box, checking unequal drainage, and investigating ponding or groundwater effects. The professional should connect port readings with tank level, distribution, dosing records, field surface, soil, groundwater, and indoor symptoms.

Separate household overload from outside water
