Find the actual guarantee before calculating a claim
If you believe solar production falls short of a guarantee, locate the actual signed agreement and applicable guarantee schedule before calculating a claim. Identify what is guaranteed, over which period, from which data and subject to which conditions. A sales estimate, module performance warranty or disappointing utility bill is not automatically a contractual household-production guarantee.
Tesla's billing support states that some agreements contain performance guarantees or production warranties and directs owners to their Energy Products Order Agreement. Its current module warranty covers specified product-reference numbers and a different performance measure. These manufacturer examples do not establish coverage for every system, promise compensation or replace professional interpretation of your actual agreement.
Separate the documents by the promise they actually make
Collect the executed system agreement, accepted amendments, relevant guarantee schedule, installation or operating dates, equipment identity and applicable warranty documents. Keep a proposal or production model separate from the contract. If the signed packet is incomplete, request it from the actual provider rather than treating a general website page as the missing terms.
The reviewed June2,2026 Tesla module warranty names TSP-430,425,420,415,410 and405 products in its United States scope. Its specified module power-output capacity under standard test conditions is not annual household energy production. Match model, installation and document applicability with the provider; do not apply the newest online module terms to an unidentified older array.
Do not merge different performance measures
A module power-capacity warranty, a household energy-production guarantee, an inverter warranty and a projected bill reduction concern different measures and conditions. Ask the provider which actual promise is being reviewed. A lower utility purchase total, lower exported energy or one weak month cannot by itself establish a breach of a different guaranteed metric.
Tesla's general warranty support page and exact current module document contain different performance language. This guide does not combine their percentages or choose a universal warranty threshold. The actual applicable document and qualified provider interpretation must control. Do not perform an owner standard-test-condition experiment, disconnect equipment or seek a measurement that requires live electrical or rooftop work.
Establish the actual review period
Ask where the applicable guarantee identifies its starting event, assessment period and review process. A system anniversary, calendar year, billing month and partial monitoring period may not coincide. Record the dates from the real documents rather than assuming that the calendar year displayed in an app is the guarantee period.
If the installation, commissioning or permission-to-operate history differs across records, have the provider reconcile the date used for this specific review. Do not select the most favorable start date or combine separate periods to produce an apparent shortfall. This article supplies no universal claim deadline, guaranteed response time or substitute contract calculation.
Build a claim-evidence map before doing arithmetic
Use the map to identify missing evidence and questions for the provider. It is not a reimbursement formula. Keeping the data source, period and contractual measure separate makes the inquiry useful even when the eventual result is that a different warranty or service process applies.
| Item | Actual evidence needed | Not interchangeable with |
|---|---|---|
| Coverage | Executed applicable guarantee terms | Sales estimate |
| Metric | Contract-defined measured quantity | Utility bill total |
| Period | Applicable start and end dates | Convenient app calendar |
| Data | Required source and known gaps | One screenshot |
| Conditions | Actual relevant requirements and exclusions | A generic warranty summary |
| Assessment | Provider result and calculation under the agreement | Owner assumption of automatic payment |
Preserve monitoring history and disclose gaps
Use supported exports or records already available through the legitimate account to retain the relevant production history, timestamps, known communication outages and service events. Mark a missing-data interval as missing; do not invent values, convert an app estimate into a measured result or assume that an unavailable graph proves zero generation.
The monitoring-history guide covers record export and service context. For a guarantee inquiry, ask the provider which data source its actual agreement requires and how it assesses gaps. Tesla notes monitoring conditions for some production warranties, but this does not establish a universal forfeiture rule for every communications outage or system.
Review conditions without diagnosing the equipment
Provide the provider with known relevant events, such as actual service interruptions or documented installation changes, and ask how the agreement treats them. Do not assume an exclusion applies merely because weather, shading or a monitoring problem occurred. Conversely, do not omit a known gap or change because it complicates the proposed calculation.
A guarantee review and a technical fault assessment may need separate work. The production-versus-bill guide addresses measurement boundaries, not eligibility for a contract remedy. Leave fault diagnosis, equipment testing and any corrective electrical or roof work to qualified professionals using the actual installed-system requirements.
Submit the inquiry through the actual provider process
Use the established verified support or account route for the specific agreement. Supply the relevant contract reference, actual period, requested records and concise explanation of the question without sharing passwords. Ask whether the request is an initial coverage inquiry, a data reconciliation, a completed period review or a technical service referral.
Retain the case acknowledgment, required follow-up and provider response. A case opened is not a finding that compensation is due, and a support-page description of a possible credit is not the actual approved remedy. Do not withhold payments, invent a demand amount or send a legal notice based on this guide; obtain appropriate professional advice for a contract dispute.
Illustrative scenario: module warranty language is used for a yearly shortfall
Imagine an owner compares a year of household solar energy with a module warranty percentage and assumes a payment is owed. This is an illustrative scenario, not a customer system we measured. The owner separates the module document from the signed system agreement and asks the provider whether an actual household-production guarantee exists and which period and data it uses.
The review may identify a contractual assessment, a different technical inquiry or no applicable guarantee. The owner preserves the real data and provider explanation rather than converting module power capacity into household energy. The example predicts no remedy or fault; it demonstrates why the promise, measurement and assessment window must be matched before a claim is calculated.
Close the assessment and any repair scope separately
Request the actual assessment result, relevant calculation explanation, applicable conditions and any approved next step. If the provider proposes technical service, identify that as a separate scope with its own completion evidence. A credit decision does not prove equipment was repaired, and a repair invoice does not automatically explain the contract-period calculation.
Keep the signed terms, matched equipment documents, actual period, data and gaps, case reference, provider determination and unresolved questions together. The warranty claim-cost guide concerns another scope question. Do not assume a production assessment establishes coverage for every labor, travel or replacement cost, or that one agreement's remedy governs another owner's system.
